ANCHOR BAY FILMS
ADDS MORNING TO ITS 2013 ROSTER
AT THIS YEAR’S SUNDANCE FILM FESTIVAL
PARK CITY, UT – Anchor Bay Films announced the acquisition of Leland Orser’s directorial debut Morning to its 2013 roster in the U.S. and Canada covering all rights. Starring Jeanne Tripplehorn (“Big Love”, The Firm) in a career defining performance, Academy® Award nominated actress Laura Linney (Hyde Park on Hudson, The Savages), Elliott Gould (Ocean’s Thirteen, American History X) and Orser (Taken, Saving Private Ryan), the film follows the life of an American couple immediately following the accidental death of their child. Morning gained critical acclaim on the festival circuit when it debuted at SXSW as a short film. Orser then decided to expand the story into a feature film and developed additional perspectives. Anchor Bay Entertainment President Bill Clark made today’s announcement.
“Morning is a powerful film with an exceptional cast,” commented Kevin Kasha, Executive Vice President, Acquisitions and Co-Productions. “We look forward to working with Leland and the film’s producer, Todd Traina, on releasing it to audiences throughout North America.”
“I think that what we are experiencing right now in mainstream cinema is a renaissance of the independent film drama. Good stories. Important themes. Center stage. This is a time for films that challenge us to think and to question and to feel deeply,” added Orser. “Morning is a love story, in the truest sense of the word, that asks us to do all of those things. Todd and I are both thrilled that it has found a home at Anchor Bay with Kevin and his team who care as passionately as we do about film and filmgoers alike.”
An everyday story of tragedy, loss, acceptance, hope and renewal, Morning follows the divergent paths of Mark and Alice Munroe as they circle each other in a heart-breaking pas-de-deux of grief before finally coming to grips with their shared loss. In addition to Tripplehorn, Linney, Gould and Orser, the outstanding cast includes Emmy® Award winner Kyle Chandler (Zero Dark Thirty, “Friday Night Lights”), Jason Ritter (“Parenthood”, W), Charlie McDermott (Frozen River) and Julie White (Lincoln, Transformers). Morning was produced by Todd Traina through his Red Rover Films shingle and Orser wrote the screenplay.
The deal was negotiated by Kevin Kasha and Marc Barson for Anchor Bay Films and by Richard Turner, representing Traina Productions/Red Rover Films.
